Kaowool Furnace Build
In this video, I take you through the process of building my new furnace from scratch. I chose a kaowool furnace because they are very simple to build and very lightweight. Total cost was about $390, and $300 of that was in the custom welding. So if you know how to weld, this furnace is incredibly cheap to build.
This furnace is INCREDIBLY well-insulated. After the first use seen in the video, it was still too hot to touch the interior after FOUR HOURS! The exterior was just warm. It also heated up to aluminum melting temperature very quickly. I'm very satisfied with how it came out.
The mason jar mixing system was inspired by @PaulsGarage.

Greening the Blue Bottle
Переглядів 3,3 тис.4 роки тому
Demonstrating the classic "blue bottle" chemical demonstration, as well as a new version from a paper I read. The new version uses completely different chemistry to achieve the same effect as the classic version, and is "green" in the sense that it is more environmentally friendly. Testing out the Gold Cube

Today I'll be taking my brand new gold catching machine, the Gold Cube, on its maiden voyage. This thing is super cool, and is able to concentrate 1000 lbs of material into a single coffee cup of concentrates! It runs quick and has great recovery. I can't wait to take it out in the field! Quest for Gold

This video is a little cobbled together, because I initially wasn't planning on uploading it. But the experiments turned out pretty cool so I thought I'd do it anyway! I wanted to try to make a metal alloy that looked like gold, for an upcoming project idea I had. If I were to use actual gold for it, the cost of the project would be around $3,000 , so I'll settle for something that looks like g...
Testing the Generon Nitrogen Membrane Filter

In this video, I get to test out a very interesting bit of technology that can filter out oxygen from the air, something which I didn't even know was possible until quite recently. I received this filter module from Generon, who very generously lent it to me to make this video. This isn't a sponsored video; they simply let me try out the module for a video. I purchased all the rest of the piece...

Where’d you go D: I ran across this channel about a year 1/2 ago..as someone else said, I’ve come back many times to re-watch certain things. Hope you’re doing well, you’re easily one of the best on YT in regards to breaking things down into laymans terms, which for those of us with only a minor background in chemistry, makes a world of difference and helps one understand things we probably wouldn’t have caught onto otherwise. Hope you’re doing well, come back!

Everything floats. I just use a metal spoon to skim it off. Aluminum benefits from a flux, otherwise the dross gets pretty gooey and hard to separate.

It might be able to get up to copper temperature as-is. It could really use some improvement to hold heat in, though. Maybe wrap it with rigidized kaowool or surround it with fire bricks. Also you'd need a better crucible - mine failed after a couple melts.

From 2024. Remember: chlorine gas reacts with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and the first products are sodium hypochlorite and sodium chloride, while temperature raises. So heating a solution of sodium hypochlorite allows the inverse reaction: NaCl + NaClO -> NaOH + Cl2 (1). Even if you have a pure NaClO solution the following equilibrium exists: NaClO + H2O <-> NaOH + HClO (2) and very unstable acid 2HClO <-> 2HCl + O2 (3) and HCl + NaOH <-> NaCl + H2O (4). So every conditions for (1) are present. Perhaps it's more effective dropping a concentrated sodium hydroxide solution.

Please help me 🙏 I'm confused in the distillation method, Exactly when taking pure substances I deliberately used a sample of medicine that had 5 ingredients in it, after I finished extracting it, then I filtered it and got the residue & filtrate. But I'm confused about how to separate the purity of these substances using the Distillation method, even though I have recorded the boiling points of the 5 substances, here are the boiling points: Substance A > Boiling point: 400 °C Substance B > Boiling point: 260°C Substance C > Boiling Point: 379 °C Substance D > Boiling point: 520 °C Substance E > Boiling point: 232 °C For example, if I want to get the purity of substance B, how do I do it ?? 🤔🤔🤔 Who knows, someone might be able to tell, 🙏

It is not the best to use ammonium nitrate because there is a bit of ammonia in the end product. I was using ammonium nitrate and after a day or two there would be a white substance at the bottom and I am assuming this to be ammonium nitrate I think. I switched to potassium nitrate because of this.

perhaps you can use swimming pool chlorinator, it comes as a powder. Not sure if it’s pure NaClO3. Also bleach comes with a small amount of sodium hydroxide, presumably to offset the chlorine in the water turning into hydrochloric acid. Probably irrelevant with all that sodium chloride present.

If the lithium caught fire in your glove box you could say goodbye to your glovebox. The temperature of a burning lithium battery is said to be at 500 degrees Celsius. It burns intensely and very quickly, and will have no trouble burning through the plastic box. With little experience, I opened up a lithium battery in open air. That was my first mistake. I knew nothing about what might happen if the battery was shorted, but that's what set the battery on fire while I held it in my bare hands. In the split second it took for me to react and drop it onto my workbench, it burned the part of my thumb that was in contact with the coated film. The iron disulfide electrolyte coating can spark when in contact with metal and it will catch fire. I was not using tools, so I imagine the spark was set off when the electrolyte came into contact with the metal (copper or aluminum?) foil inside the battery. Chalk this up to experience. I now know how dangerous these batteries can be if improperly handled. My thumb was fine and the incident left no visible damage by the following day, though it hurt like hell for the first few hours after it happened. What surprised me was the speed at which this happened! So, be safe. Be very careful when working with these types of batteries. This is not to say, I wouldn't do it again, but I will take better precautions the next time 'round.
